About Kyle W. Porter
To quote the founder of Bridge Repertory Theatre, Livy Scanlon, I’m: “…an odd chameleon of an actor..”
After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Dean College with a BA in Theatre, I have done a little bit of everything. I was an apprentice with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, I’ve done live theatre, concerts, film and commercial work; I directed, produced, and organized different live events in the USA and China, and I’ve performed in a variety of different types of live venues in the USA and China (including a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a ballroom frequented by Mao Zedong). I lived in China for 5 years, speak Mandarin fluently (HSK level 4 certified), trotted the globe a few times, and I’m a certified TEFL Teacher.
As a comedic actor with a dramatic flair, I enjoy roles that explore a range of physicality, demand great comedic timing, and have a loveable quirkiness. From the eccentric stickler Malvolio in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to the quiet, but menacing Stalker in The Bodyguard: The Musical, I really thrive in roles that challenge me to think outside of the box.
I recently was in a few commercials and several indie/major films. I’ve been taking classes on film acting and technique with Emmy-award winning director Scott Takeda.
When I’m not acting, directing, or writing, I enjoy traveling the world, playing guitar, collecting TinTin memorabilia, nerding-out about tea, and talking in different funny voices (much to the dismay of those around me).
-From the world of pure imagination…I’m Kyle W. Porter.
